Emma Jane is at that really fun age when she thinks she knows what is best.
You know, 2 going on 20.
She thinks she knows when and what she should eat. She thinks she knows what clothes are appropriate for the weather and/or occassion. She also thinks she knows whether she needs a nap.
She has recently decided that she does not require an afternoon nap anymore. As her mother, I do have the means and authority to make her stay in her room. But I don't have the means to make her fall asleep. She's got me there.
The rule is that she must stay in her room for an hour and a half. After that time, if she is still awake, she is allowed out of her room.
Twice this week, Emma Jane has gleefully left her room after the required imprisonment rest time, only to do this an hour later:

Too funny! Izzy would NEVER pass out like that!
She showed you! Too funny!
She is in control of the situation that way! LOL!
Yep, we have that here too. Runs wild all day, time for supper and look who's asleep.
Oh my gosh, the cutest thing ever! :) I know that age. Saylor wants to watch "Mi-ie" {Minnie} instead of nap. Then she falls asleep in my bed. :)
NO WAY! I really think I'd scream and attempt to pull me hair out. That is, until I realize that this unexpectedly, yet delightfully, knocks the "kid load" from 3 to 2. There are worse things I guess. Like if her late nap affects her bedtime.
G'day from a father of three. Looks like she was caught ``napping''!
Too funny! I wish Layla would fall asleep like that.
Their defiance is SO funny!
From a distance.
When it isn't my kid.
awwww...too cute Lauren!
Evie is creeping up on that whole I-don't-need-a-nap idea lately too. I am NOT ready or happy about it. She's passed out a few times like that and it always gives me pause...and then I pretend to have control around here for a few minutes...it never really lasts. :)
rotfl!!! Okay, so Izabel started skipping naps around 2yrs as well. Then around 4-5pm she would zonk out! For hours! And then bedtime was a complete nogo. SO, Izzy still doesn't nap, but she's not allowed to nap late in the day either. We moved her bedtime up and all has been well. No fussing at bedtime either, she's out like a light.
Now, if we are in the car and she's tired, she slip in a 30 minutes snooze, but usually it doesn't affect bedtime. The car always made her sleep and still does.
Great capture!
Ah the independence of toddlerhood!
That picture is so funny and cute. I have that exact situation with Jamison. She's almost 6 but still needs a nap. She will have quiet time in her room for an hour and not go to sleep but it never fails that about 4:30 she's out cold. I'm ready for her to be done with naps.
establishing independence at 2 or 20 requires a lot of energy. I think I'll take a nap. Here’s my photo story. happy Friday!
Oh boy, now I remember that stage... and I have one getting ready to enter it. She's 20 months and still in a crib. But, it won't be long now. Not long at all!
Adorable photo of your little one!
Bonus! It's almost like you got two naps out of her!
Almost.
My son, almost three, also still loves his Boppy. My husband thinks the boy will take it with him to college.
My Kelsie is 2 and we are definitely going through that right now with her as well!
